Conformation
Most people know conformation from watching The National Dog Show or Westminster Kennel Club Show on TV, and think judges are basing their picks on “the prettiest dog.” In some ways, this is true, but there is much more to conformation than just running around a ring looking pretty. Conformation’s purpose is to evaluate breeding stock. The overall appearance and structure of the dog is an indication of the dog’s ability to work and produce quality offspring. Judges are tasked with choosing the dog that most closely “conforms” to that breed’s standard as the winner.
To earn an AKC Champion title dogs must acquire 15 points, including 2 majors (more than three points won at the same time), won under different judges, and at least one point under a third different judge. Allyn PWD’s breeding program only breeds Champions who have also passed all their health clearances. This increases the potential for producing structurally sound and genetically healthy puppies.
