Bio:
Jill registered name was CH Tesouro’s Black Magic RN CGC. We got Jill to be Jack’s dog. As we said before, every little boy needs a dog. Jill had other ideas about whose dog she was going to be. She was also supposed to be Bruce’s dog, but he went to Ireland and Scotland on a golf trip right after we got her, so she bonded with Cristi and became a Mama’s dog, through and through. She did like to watch her Daddy eat though.
Jill was Cristi’s cuddling dog, and there was not much asked of Jill. However, she often tried to play along if not confined while we were training/working another dog. When we were practicing Jack’s blind float line retrieves one Thanksgiving with Cristi’s niece and nephew (indoors), while Jack was waiting for the release command, Jill jumped off the couch, went into the kitchen and got the line and brought it back happily.
Jill’s true talent was in her innate ability to be a good dam. She had wonderful instincts with puppies (and crazy adult dogs who had not been taught good manners) and it was just amazing to observe how well she met their needs, adjusting her behavior to their developmental stages. Normally, Jill kept herself on a doggy version of the South Beach diet (she eschews carbs). However, a couple of weeks after she was bred, she did not turn her head away from a proffered French fry (we joke that we knew she was going to have puppies after that). She was also not one to counter surf but when the puppies were being weaned, she once jumped up and stole a leftover dinner roll from the porch railing and took it over to her puppies’ ex pen. It took her a while to get it into them but she worked at it until they each had some. Her second litter with us, she went through the pass through window into the kitchen and got a plate of steaks (wrapped in bacon no less) that she delivered to her puppies in their pen. She never stole anything else (but she would drink out of a glass if available).
Jill loved tracking and enjoyed agility practice (she could trot REALLY fast, but good luck getting her to run). We were looking forward to trying barn hunt as it was right up her alley, since in the middle of agility class she went off in the middle of a sequence because she found a nest of baby mice.
Jill was our foundation bitch.
