Armada

Bio:

Armada’s registered name is CH Allyn Tyme to BatTEN Down the Hatches BN RE OA OAJ NF BCAT THDA CGCA TKA and is a brown, wavy coat. He was the second to last to be born out of his litter and was the tan collared puppy. He is our Little Brown Dog, or LBD for short. He lives in Winfield, WV with his people Colleen and Jeremy and his brother Trek. Armada had a bigger brother named Aidan who died suddenly in October 2015, whom he misses very much.

Armada is a busy little boy training in multiple performance events, such as: Agility, Obedience, Rally, and Water Work.  He received his Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title when he was just over a year old and was then able to pass the Community Canine (CGCA) test with flying colors and little training two weeks after Colleen had major knee surgery in May 2014. Armada’s very sweet nature and calm disposition made Colleen think he would be a great Therapy Dog, so in May 2015 Armada and Colleen became certified with Therapy Dogs International (TDI). Armada excels at Therapy work, his favorite places to visit are his special needs Pre-K class at a local elementary school and a reading class at a different elementary school, but he will therapy dog anybody that he thinks might need it whether he is working or not. Armada received his Therapy Dog Novice (THDN) title from AKC in October 2016. In February 2016, Armada and Colleen started volunteering with the local Hospice organization. Armada visits staff, patients, and patient's families in three locations in the area. He earned his AKC Therapy Dog (THD) title in May 2018. On June 7th, 2018 Armada and Colleen were honored by Modern Woodmen of America at the annual Capitol City Biker Bash (a fundraiser for HospiceCare), in Charleston, WV as Hometown Heroes for the therapy dog volunteer work they do in the community.

In November 2013, Armada received his Rally Novice title at Parkersburg Obedience Training Club in Marietta, Ohio with two 2nd place finishes and a 3rd place finish. In August 2015, Armada earned 2nd place at the Portuguese Water Dog National Specialty in Frankenmuth, MI for his first leg towards his Rally Advanced title. He finished his Rally Advanced title in April 2016 at Kanawha Obedience Training Club’s Rally Trials with two 1st place finishes. Armada earned his Rally Excellent title on May 5th, 2018 at Parkersburg Obedience Training Club's Obedience and Rally trials in Marietta, OH. This title was a long, hard road for Armada and Colleen, so we are very proud of them for persevering. Colleen says that Armada is now retired from Rally and will focus on his budding Agility career!

Armada has trained in Obedience, but does not love it, so competing in this venue has been few and far between. Armada has been working on his AKC Beginner Novice title for a few years. He earned his first leg with a 2nd place finish at Charleston Dog Training Club in Charleston, SC in January 2014, and earned his second leg with a 4th place finish at Portuguese Water Dog National Specialty in Frankenmuth, MI in August 2015. We are happy to announce that Armada has finished his AKC Beginner Novice Obedience title at the Kentuckiana Cluster Dog Shows in Louisville, KY on March 16th, 2019.

In July 2013, at 10 months old Armada and Colleen went to their very first Water Trial, hosted by Movers & Shakers Portuguese Water Dog Club of the Carolinas in Raleigh, NC. They were entered in Junior, but ended up not passing. Armada did all of the exercises perfectly, until it came to with swim with handler exercise. Armada is not the most confident dog in the water, but he swims just fine, so for the rest of the year we focused on getting him more comfortable in the water. Unfortunately just prior to the following water season, Colleen had two major knee surgeries, which reduced the amount of time Colleen was able to focus on water training. We have since been using his brothers (first Aidan, now Trek) to help encourage Armada in the water. Armada will let us know when we should try for his Apprentice Water Dog title.

Armada finished his breed Championship in May 2016 under judge, Michael Gelinas, at Blennerhassett Kennel Club's show in Marietta, OH. Armada started his show career at 8 months old, in May 2013, just going out in the ring for happy tails; he received his first point that weekend at the Greater Clarksburg Kennel Club show in Marietta, OH with our friend Sabrina handling him. Armada singled out pretty quickly, so we had Don and Liz Powell help us get his majors, which we were able to get at Warrenton Kennel Club and Old Dominion Kennel Club in Millwood, VA in September 2015. Armada is a smaller boy, weighing around 38 lbs and standing 19" at the withers. He has a beautiful gait and is well balanced.

Armada made his Agility Debut on April 28th, 2018 at Cleveland All-Breed Training Club, in Brooklyn Heights, OH. He earned 1st place in Novice Standard and 3rd Place in Novice Jumpers with Weaves (JWW). On April 29th, he earned first place (beating out Trek) in Novice Standard, but he didn't qualify in Novice JWW. He seemed to have an absolute BLAST in Agility, so Colleen is planning on focusing her efforts on Agility with Armada at the moment. Armada finished his Novice Standard (NA) and Novice Jumpers with Weaves (NAJ) titles at the Gordon Setter Club of America trial in North Olmsted, OH the weekend of June 30th - July 1st, 2018. He finished his NA on Saturday, so Colleen moved him up to Open for Sunday. He had a perfect run, but didn't get his weaves, so they didn't Qualify, but it was still a great run!!!
