Bio:

Sammie's registered name is CH Allyn the Drive BN RN WWD. She also goes by Slamin' Sammie, the Doodlebug, Sammie Doodlebug, or SDB. She was the puppy girl with the red collar in our first litter. She was the first puppy in the litter to go into the water to swim voluntarily and seems as at home in the water as on land. She loves the water so much that she sometimes goes on "swim about" and has taught many of the younger dogs the joys of swimming endlessly.

Sammie finished her AKC conformation championship in January 2010. Then she got her first big haircut. She received her Junior Water Dog certification at the Movers and Shakers Southern Splash Water trial in North Carolina in July 2008 followed by her Apprentice Water Dog title in July 2011. June 30, 2012, she earned her Working Water Dog Title in at the Great Lakes Portuguese Water Dog Club’s trial in Michigan.  She earned her Rally Novice title with three first place finishes in April 2009. She has also completed her AKC Beginner Novice title, but since Cristi is very leash challenged (as well as having issues with left vs right and ring nerves), we haven’t pursued formal obedience trialing, but we do enjoy training for it.

Sammie’s favorite tricks include pressing her “Easy” buttons (Spanish or English) on cue; doing agility tunnels and teeters; chewing up "indestructible" Kong toys and doing "death rolls" with Jack's stuffed alligator in her mouth.

Playful and energetic, she also learned good manners quickly from her mother (Jill) and is a very good cuddler during down time (an important lesson learned with Jack.) Unfortunately, Sammie has also earned a reputation for being unable to hold her licker and has been known to pin people down and lick them for minutes on end.

In December 2008, we whelped and "nannied" a litter of Golden Retriever puppies for a friend. The dam was not overly interested in the puppies (beyond nursing), but Sammie was. She was very gentle with them from the first time she encountered them and would check on the puppies whenever they cried. On occasion when a puppy would lose his/her way in the box and the dam wouldn’t help, Sammie would go in a gently guide the puppy back to the dam.  

The Doodlebug also helped her mother with her little brothers and sisters born in May 2010. Jill was perfectly capable of taking care of her own children so at first, Sammie’s assistance was not permitted. As they became older and more mobile, she got to interact with them in a big-sister capacity (although I am pretty certain my older sister would not have allowed me to do the things those puppies could do to Sammie).

In September 2012, Sammie had her first litter of puppies of her own. She was an even better Mama than nanny/older sister. Those ten puppies were very well cared for by Doodlebug (and her Mama was there to provide backup). She and Triton did a very good job making puppies, so we repeated the breeding and had 5 more in July of 2014. We're very proud of those puppies (and their people).

Retired from being the Mama, SDB is focusing on luring new humans into the Village; being the matriarch of the clan; and playing agility and water. At the 2018 PWDCA National Specialty, SDB was awarded her Producer of Merit (POM) Award. We are very proud of Sammie and all of her puppies and their humans who contributed to this achievement.
