Rally

Most people are aware of the basic concept of Competition Obedience, but are still a little unfamiliar with Rally Obedience, or Rally for short. Rally consists of a course with 10-20 stations (depending on level) which displays instructions for the dog and handler to perform. Unlimited communication from the handler is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, but there should be a sense of teamwork between the dog and handler. Teams start out with 100 points, which are subtracted for mistakes made during the run. A qualifying score in Rally is a score of 70 or higher. To earn a title dogs must get at least three qualifying scores under two different judges. Rally is a great introduction to the world of performance dog sports, and many of our dogs’ first titles are in Rally. AKC Rally has four levels of competition:

Novice (RN)
All exercises are performed on leash
10-15 stations, with no more than 5 stationary exercises
Exercises in this level include turns and varying paces

Advanced (RA)
All exercises are performed off leash
12-17 stations, with no more than 7 stationary exercises, and one jump
Exercises at this level include the dog changing positions in relationship to the handler and more difficult versions of exercises performed in Novice

Excellent (RE)
All exercises are performed off leash
15-20 stations, with no more than 7 stationary exercises, and two jumps
Exercises at this level include backing up in heel position and following cues from a distance

Advanced Excellent (RAE)
Dogs must obtain a qualifying score in both Advanced and Excellent classes at the same trial 10 times to get this title.
